The Philippine Call Center Industry
Filed in archive Outsourcing News on November 24, 2006
Next to India, I would say that the Philippines would be the next option when it comes to companies looking for the ideal outsourcing destination for their call center industry.
Last 2001, there were only a total of 2,000 people who worked as call center agents. Nowadays, there are at least 200,000 employees who are employed in the call center industry. The growth rate was equated to 90% in the past 5 years and it has an estimated revenue of 1.7 billion dollars.
One of the reasons attributed to the success of the call center industry in the Philippines is the people's familiarity and understanding of American culture-something that India needs to work on. There are currently 100 call centers in the Philippines.

I honestly hope that the Philippines can rapidly improve its English education. This will be the biggest reason why companies may choose to pass the Philippines as a an outsourcing destination.

I work in a callcenter. I've heard that we now have 300 (more of less) callcenters in the Philippines that are registered in our Securities and Exchange Commission. That's waaay more than 100 :)
