Israel-based multinational Taro Pharmaceutical Industries signed an outsourcing deal with indian major Alkem Laboratories for formulations development and supply contract.

Under the agreement, Taro and Alkem will develop products for the US and other markets. According to an industry source, the two companies will work together for three to four large selling antibiotic formulations as Alkem will supply products from its plant at Daman.

Taro set up its Indian base in 2004 to explore outsourcing possibilities for active pharmaceutical ingredients and intermediates. It is also in talks with intermediate manufacturers in India for acquisition of a facility and other outsourcing deals.
