Selective Outsourcing should be considered an art because making a masterpiece is not that easy. A masterpiece in this case pertains to a successful deal that companies make through making a strategic plan when outsourcing.
In recent interview, Tom Miller, senior director of IT at FoxHollow Technologies revealed that when they practice "selective outsourcing". their driving force is not cost-saving. Their main drive when outsourcing are skills. Aside from that, most of the outsourced functions are security-related ones.
This kind of approach in outsourcing helps companies in maintaining control over their functions even if these are non-core ones. This approach also reflects a smarter way to handle outsourcing which would benefit the company as well as the outsourcing providers.
