Santa Clara University: Survey Finds Half of Silicon Valley’s Outsourced Jobs Go to India

According to a survey by Santa Clara University's Leavey School of Business in California, "about half of Silicon Valley's outsourced jobs go to India, with other Asian nations and China trailing behind in the jobs race."

The survey, which polls executives and managers in Silicon Valley, has tracked outsourcing in the region over the last three years, and showed a slight decrease in the number of Silicon Valley companies who practice offshore outsourcing.

Mario Belotti, the W.M. Keck professor of economics at the Leavey School of Business: "Outsourcing as a drain on area jobs seems to have leveled off. This leveling off is consistent with the latest monthly increases in the county labor force and civilian employment. Recent gains in both of these economic variables have been somewhat higher than similar gains for the U.S. as a whole."

The survey also registered a slightly more positive outlook for present conditions and future expectations in Silicon Valley businesses for September. The monthly business indicator is a composite index that tracks business conditions and job trends in the region.
