Recruitment Process Outsourcing

The evolution of outsourcing is certainly growing especially with the arrival of Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO). Usually headhunters are the ones who take charge of this process but most of these headhunters are outsourcing their job somewhere else in the world.
This means that the whole recruitment process is being outsourced in India or the Philippines thus not requiring any face to face contact. This article written by Hannah Clark describes this process. Here is a brief description of this article:
Here's how it works: Just like head hunters, recruitment process outsourcers often make cold calls to identify employees–say, accountants or computer programmers–who might be seeking new opportunities. They also scan the major job boards, like Monster, and smaller, niche sites such as EngineerJobs.com. They get involved with chat boards, go to social networking sites like LinkedIn and contact trade associations. Some companies, including Spherion and FutureStep, also allow candidates to apply through their Web sites. The outsourcers conduct initial job interviews, then pass the final candidates on to the hiring firm. Ideally, the process is seamless for the candidate, who won't realize he's being passed from one company to another.
Sounds complicated? That's RPO to you.

We used an RPO in our recruitment model to address some of our larger clients’ needs for low margin IT consultants. There are several RPOs based in the US now and you simply enter into a general contract with that company to perform recruiting services with their “off-shore” recruiters. Typically, these off-shore resources are significantly less than the cost of a U.S. based recruiters. These resources can either perform basic sourcing work identifying candidates from websites, or perform full-life cycle recruiting. In either event, be prepared to confront difficulties associated with cultural differences, communication challenges, and different working hours. In the final analysis, though we got to know these off-shore recruiters pretty well, we couldn’t identify an overall cost savings. We went back to hiring U.S. based recruiters with hirer salaries, but with the knowledge they could communicate clearly during our working hours and had more emotional investment in the success of our organization.
