Pharma Outsourcing: The Basics
Filed in archive Basics on October 24, 2006
Some pharmaceutical companies are not aware of the results which outsourcing could bring to their organization. One factor could be because of their hesitance to outsource because of the risks regarding it. To give you a little understanding of Pharma outsourcing, let me discuss with you the reasons why drug-related tasks (legal, that is) are being outsourced.
There are two major reasons why pharmaceutical companies outsource. These 2 primary reasons are:
a. the screening of compounds
b. the preclinical testing of compounds
The functions which I mentioned could be considered as the "high-maintenance" tasks in pharmaceutical companies. Outsourcing helps a lot in terms of cutting the cost when doing the said tasks. Aside from that, outsourcing also helps in "freeing up precious in-house resources". Take note that at least 5,000 drug compounds are needed to be examined for one successful drug discovered.

For a customer I am looking for contract production options for a polymer microsphere product filled with active substance. Does anybody know a potential supplier?
