Outsourcing for Small Businesses

In today's Baltimore Sun, Stephen Rosenstein details some of the benefits of outsourcing for small businesses. These benefits can help small businesses get ahead – and stay ahead – of their competition.

Mr. Rosenstein is careful to warn potential outsourcing customers to go into these relationships professionally, however, and to focus on key issues like accessibility to vendor management, details about the services that they will receive, and references to current and former clients.

One other thing that Mr. Rosenstein points out is that outsourcing is something that many small businesses do – even before they know what to call it. So it shouldn't be treated as an oddity – but a normal part of the company's business.

The topic of outsourcing is a big deal right now, all over the world. Many people in my opinion, misunderstand it. For the small business owner or solopreneur, outsourcing and connecting to service vendors in other countries, outside one’s own is a great money saving benefit.

Outsourcing is a good idea if properly managed. Else outsourcing cost will be more than inhouse cost.

Outsourcing brings many great benefits when it is well assessed (make or buy decision) and well operationally managed. To be efficient it requires a dedicated personn in charge of its day-to-day management. It costs but it worths to have such personn in the organization.

Outsourcing definitely has the advantages of being able to tap into an expert or a group of experts in the field, but it does need to be weighed against the cost / dedication factor of inhouse vs. outsourced.

Certain functions make perfect sense to outsource, especially when the time and expertise required are not inherent in a small business.
