It looks as if Citigroup may sell its captive Indian offshore unit to Tata Consultancy in the near future (see article). As one of the pioneers in captive offshore facilities, this is somewhat of a landmark (but in no way unique).
That Tata is likely to purchase the unit (at a premium) rather than IBM says something about the market for proven, secure centers. One would expect that the Citigroup center meets all of the highest standards when it comes to security and customer service, and one could also understand why an Indian company, Tata, would want that imprimatur. Certainly, it would catapult Tata into the first tier for these type of centers.
