Outsourcing News
by Carol Kendrick on December 31, 2006

This news item certainly caught my eye. Here is a quote from one of the registrars of the high courts stating its intent of applying outsourcing in the legal system:
"A number of services being rendered by court servants can be outsourced if they are found to be more economical."
All tasks are now considered for outsourcing which ranges from maintenance, transportation, running canteens, providing security, and stenographers.

We have been offshoring legal functions since 2004. The outsourcing mentioned above is in context of the ancillary physical support functions which are outsourced to outside providers. We have taken it a step further to outsource legal research, writing, patent searches and so on. I think the judiciary should look at outsourcing some of those functions to improve efficieny.
