IT salaries up - inspite of offshoring
Filed in archive Believe It or Not by Danny on October 18, 2004

According to data from the META Group, IT salaries are expected to rise by 10-15% over the next three years.

Can you hear the collective sigh or relief from system administrators California to New York?

But this does seem strange, when considering the frequent reports of mega deals that are going to big outsourcing companies. How can this be when a worker from India demands 5x less than his American counterpart?

For one - it seems that the impact of outsourcing has been exaggerated. The number of jobs expected to be outsourced is nowhere near the general magnitude of job churn in this country.

In addition, it seems that the improved U.S. economy is starting to heat up the labor market.
