IBM Global Services won a seven-year, $323 million IT outsourcing contract with insurance firm UWV. The contract represents one of IBM's largest deals in the Netherlands.
Part of the contract ($107 million worth) will be subcontracted to Capgemini, which will provide application migration and integration services to UWV.
IBM/Capgemini beat out rivals like Hewlett-Packard, Getronics NV and Pink Roccade NV. Both Getronics and Pink Roccade have existing contracts with UWV to supply network management and workstation management services respectively.
The Dutch-based company was formed in 2002 by the merger of five separate insurance companies. The previous companies' data centers will now be merged into a single IBM facility. UWV provides insurance to around 700,000 employees in the retail and manufacturing sectors.
