Daimler to step up R&D outsourcing to India
Auto major DaimlerChrysler will increase outsourcing of research and development (R&D) to India.
The DaimlerChrysler Research Center (DMRC) in Bangalore, India researches various areas such as encryption, image signal processing, telematics, and fuel cell modeling for the carmaker's global requirements. The Indian unit also assists the group in designing and technology upgrades.
Wilfred Aulbur, managing director of DaimlerChrysler India, said, "DaimlerChrysler is planning to significantly augment R&D work from DMRC. Similarly, the group's outsourcing of components like motors and crankshafts from the country is also going to grow."
Aulber also added that India has a better market potential for the company's range of cars as compared to China. He said, "The Indian market is just getting ready for our range of cars. We are highly enthusiastic about the local market.
