Filed in archive Outsourcing News on October 27, 2005

Chinese telecom equipment major Huawei Technologies is in the process of setting up a US$60 million manufacturing plant in India. The company will comply with India's Department of Telecom's policy by building a production unit in the country.
Fu Jun, Huawei Technologies spokesperson, said, "We are planning local manufacturing in India and will invest US$60 million for the same. We applied in March 2005 for approval for the facility from Foreign Investment Promotion Board and waiting for the decision."
The proposed Bangalore facility will focus on Huawei's Next Generation Network fixed wireless terminals, and the designing process of its products.
Other telecom companies like Nokia and Ericsson already have manufacturing facilities in India.
