Call Center Ban in India?

This sounds surprising but yes, call centers are experiencing a "ban" when it comes as a career option for young workers in India.

The reason for this "ban" was mentioned in this report done by the Indian University which was also featured in TIME. According to the report, being a call center agent is an "undesirable employment option" as compared to other employment opportunities. Here is an interesting quote from the said research:

Several colleges have barred call center recruiters from their campuses. Call centers have gotten a negative image due to the long hours and stressful conditions they impose on their employees, according to TIME. Retail, airline and hospitality industries now offer salaries equitable to call centers, and the most skilled students aspire to jobs in more sophisticated sectors like product development.

If this attitude would continue, companies would really look for other outsourcing alternative and destination. In return, India would also suffer in terms of their outsourcing status because these call centers contributed a lot for India's growth.
