Bill Calling Ban on Outsourcing
Filed in archive Outsourcing Pros and Cons by on March 16, 2004
Quoted from Channel News Asia, the U.S. Senate has approved a bill Calling a ban on using government money, which comes from tax payers, to fund outsourced projects.

Regardless of the bright sides of outsourcing, according to analysts and experts, it has more threatening factors. The government officials argued that outsourcing threatens the growth of employment, which is crucial for the long-term stability of the U.S. economy.

This has become a major issue in the 2004 election debate among candidates. For instance, Gregory Mankiw the chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers to President Bush once said outsourcing is probably favorable for the economy in the long term. "It makes sense to import goods or services produced at lower cost," he said.

According to him, it is just a new way of doing international trade.

This "radical" perspective from a member of the Bush Administration, however, has been protested by both parties --democrat and republican, and by labor unions and advocates.

The debate, however, is still sizzling hot. New arguments are expressed everyday.
