AT&T Cuts Outsourcing Deal

AT&T Cuts Outsourcing Deal

AT&T, one of the biggest telecommunications company in the US is putting a period in their outsourcing deal in India. According to the company, they are bringing back 2,000 unionized customer service jobs, most of which are related to the broadband side of the company's business.

The firm's decision was considered more of "tactical" rather than strategic. Aside from that, the company's decision does not necessarily mean that outsourcing is on their way down the drain.

Most American union workers are delighted with this news but the push to bring back jobs in the US continues. One example of which is the statement released by the Communications Workers of America (CWA) stating that jobs brought back in the US should include also staff-level work and not only managerial ones.

This is completely wrong, the jobs brought back do not compensate for the subsequent jobs lost in other centers, AT&T is a company that cannot be trusted to keep American jobs and America, we just received notice yesterday 9/9/07 that AT&T is now having workers in India working our tickets, we can only assume the obvious and believe our jobs will be threatened when contract talks start in a couple of years. These are good paying jobs in America, we are not talking about a few hundred workers but several thousand at least.
