China is known as the manufacturing hub in the world and sometimes, being the manufacturing hub is not a great thing. The blog entry entitled Why Tainted Toothpaste Matters In The Outsourcing Discussion managed to incorporate the quality of products in China in terms of their performance as an outsourcing hub. Here is an excerpt from the this entry:
Don't mistake this for an anti-globalization, anti-China, protectionist Rant. I don't support that narrow view of the world. But, as a consumer, I'm not feeling too trustful about goods from China these days. And I'm furious over such blatant disregard for human health. Yesterday I found in my daughter's room a little hand-painted wooden toy I'd bought a few years ago with a Made In China sticker on it. I immediately thought about the Thomas the Tank Engine toy recall. Into the trash it went.
The author's ideas are logical which also made me wonder how China would be able to pull this kind of feat in outsourcing. Let's face it-IPR and other related illegal matters are common in China, how would companies protect themselves from that? Unless China would provide a tangible plan for these issues, their plan of overtaking India would be just a far-fetched one.
